The DLC even brings a brand new endgame stage and alternative final boss. The five new stages will offer new terrain to explore and secrets to uncover. The Void Fiend is a “corrupt combatant” that seeps with mystery, but each of these will have their own unique skills and play-styles to offer for the world of Risk of Rain 2. The Railgunner is a powerhouse sniper, perfect for these massive new levels. The Survivors of the Void DLC is offering more levels, more enemies, and more Risk of Rain.Īlong with Massive levels, the Survivors of the Void will also bring with it two new survivors. The new gamemode isn't something I would be interested in playing too much of, but it's pretty good for what it is. The others are fine as they are and make runs a bit more interesting. Void seeds have a couple issues with implementation, but that will all be fixed in the patch that's coming. The new ending is a bit harder than the default ending, but it's fun to try completing. You are incentivized to avoid certain items or scrap them when you can while playing Void Fiend, but Rex is in the same situation with items that do other things. Managing corruption takes a bit of mastery and feels pretty nice when you start getting the hang of it. A unique interaction with the corrupt items also adds to its depth. The base form has a lot of useful utilities, and the other form rewards a riskier play style and can do pretty impressive damage. Some people complain about Void Fiend because it's such a nuanced character, but it's honestly my favorite. Railgunner's unique crit mechanic encourages skillful aiming, and her kit gives a high risk/high reward play style centered around hitting enemy weak points with high-damage attacks that leave her unable to shoot a short time after using them. The other is more threatening than other elites you can see early in a run but can still be dealt with after you learn how it works. No longer can you simply focus down a boss while ignoring every random enemy, because one elite will make that boss significantly harder to kill if you ignore it. Feels like you need more mobility than an engineer with no items in order to survive sometimes, but most characters easily accomplish that. I like most of the new enemies, but one tends to litter stages by overspawning and doesn't pose any threat unless you sit in their line of sight and wait for them to hit you. The new stages look nice visually and feel unique enough to play on. The new equipments are fun, although one can't be obtained until a future patch due to a bug. The new normal items add some nice variety to loot pools and seem to generally be well-balanced. I only get lunar items for achievements since I'm not into the downsides they give, so I can't comment on those. One can't be obtained because of a bug, but a fix is coming. The corrupt items converting all items of a certain type into a sidegrade adds a bit of depth to choosing which items to pick up. Trying not to rate everything the DLC advertises without giving too much info that isn't on the store page. But at least there's 4 ways to win now (Actual Final Boss, Obliteration, Hidden Bonus Boss 1-4, and now Hidden Bonus Boss 5) so I can just end my runs differently if I hate it that much I don't need to dwell on it. I beat it once to say I did, out of pure spite, since my first time reaching it was that wretched. I also just completely hate the new alternate final boss. Or the aforementioned longer burn in this thread. These bugs include things like Momentum being carried over after falling off the stage, rocketing you off the same ledge again. It's not perfect, though: As stated, there are bugs that need fixing, which the devs have released info on and are working on. A must-not for Engineer with Stationary Turrets, but beyond amazing on agile characters like Huntress or Mercenary.) The new items are total gamechangers and trade-offs in the same way Lunar Items are, since they corrupt existing items into more copies of them (Bustling Fungus gets corrupted into Weeping Fungus, as an example, making it heal on sprint instead of on standing still. The new enemies (with the notable exception of the new, alternate final boss you can find) mix up the variety and help offset a lot of the past issues. The content is a much-needed upgrade to the vanilla game. The DLC shook up how a lot of people played, and this is why they aren't happy. This is the reason for the hate you see on the forums.Īnd this honestly makes sense people got used to how it was before. Therefore, people are inherently worse at it than they are at the old content. It's new, so people don't have the knowledge yet.
